What’s on Tap?

Here’s some good reads, links and what I’ve been reading and thinking about. First, check this out article by N.T Wright called “The Americans Know This Will End in Schism.”

Wright, takes a traditional stances on marriage but with a different approach, and tough questions on the notion of “justice’ or what exactly is just? Interesting… as most normally don’t take this approach.

Second, I’m reading an article by Gorge Foot Moore from the Harvard Theological Review (1921) titled “Christian Writers on Judaism.”  Thoughts and reactions will soon follow. His findings were ignored by scholarship and later energized by E.P. Sanders, which changed the gamed, as much of Christian scholarship misunderstood Judaism. More on this later. Sorry, this article isn’t available online.

Third, finished reading a sub-section called “Cheating Death: The Scheintod Motif in Novels.” Here’s something to think about, Various greco-roman sources depict characters trying to beat death, include visions, dreams, ghosts, which people claimed to experience, but these stories/writings don’t claim with the Gospel writings seem to suggest (claiming something more); “Nobody in the pagan world of Jesus’ day and thereafter actually claimed that somebody had been truly dead and had then come to be truly, and bodily, alive1 once more.”2

  1. Note: “To be alive truly, alethos, means to have a solid, this-worldly, embodied existence. []
  2. The Resurrection and The Son of God, page 76 []
